All residence assistants should be elected through fair and just procedures and support the Division of Student Housing Affairs, participate in workshops, interact with faculty and fellow residents, and take responsibility for their assigned areas. Residence assistants should ensure that regulations related the rights and interests of dormitory residents from the Division of Student Housing Affairs or other administrative units are effectively communicated and shared with dormitory residents. They shall also oversee dormitory residents’ participation in dormitory activities.

Their tasks include keeping dorms clean, arranging repairs, and discussing renovations. Residence assistants should also, from time to time, check utilities for safety and if students are in possession of contraband items. Residence assistants are also in charge of reporting or handling any unusual problems or incidents.

Between 11PM and 7AM, residence assistants should maintain order in their areas and can also supervise other areas. Residence assistants should set up a rotating night schedule each semester from 11PM to 12AM to check corridors, facilities, and ensure that policies banning the other sex from staying over and students from smoking in dorms are observed. Residence assistants should also share duties on weekends and holidays to support Division of Student Housing Affairs clerk on duty with various affairs.

Residence assistants are elected yearly, in compliance with residence assistant election guidelines, at the end of the academic year and will serve for the next academic year. All residence assistants will be guaranteed on-campus accommodations for the duration of their service and reduced accommodation feed after fulfilling their duties. The Division of Student Housing Affairs encourages and welcomes students interested in joining the team to help improve dorm life for everyone living at THU.
